Engineering Notes » Shortwave Radio

The shortwave bands are still quite active and DX stations are frequently received. WWV can serve as a reference for band conditions and times for best reception. A typical SW antenna can be a long wire, tuned or untuned, or the popular 90' Windom. An active antenna can work quite well also but must be chosen carefully as they are susceptible to overload. The H-800 is an affordable compact active antenna with good signal handling ability. Also the H-900 ( Grove Enterprises exclusive) has the best dynamic range and has a switchable broad band amplifier.
